About Dr. Pierce


Dr. David M. Pierce, OD...

has always been interested in researching learning strategies to improve students’ visual and cognitive skills in the reading and spelling process, so his involvement in The Spelling Ladder is no surprise.

Dr Pierce Dr. Pierce earned his undergraduate degree at Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas, before going on to earn his doctorate in 1989 from the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee. While primarily a private practioner, Dr. Pierce continues to have an active role in the study and research of several vision-related disorders, including those linked to learning disabilities like Dyslexia and Attention Deficit Disorder. This experience has helped him foster a deep understanding of how the mind and vision interact on every level.

Dr. Pierce is a co-recipient of the 2004 SuccessLink's Proven Practice Award for Reading as part of a team that developed a pilot school program for Blue Eye Elementary School in Blue Eye, MO. He is currently the Optometric Director for the VIP (Vision Intervention Program) funded by the non-profit organization SuccessLink, and he stays involved by advising teachers and administrators in pilot school programs designed to screen and detect children who are at risk for learning related visual problems.
